Chemical energy is the energy associated with chemical reactions. A chemical reaction changes one kind of matter into another. When gasoline burns in an automobile or wood burns in a a bonfire, it releases chemical energy. The energy supplied to our bodies by food is chemical energy. Plants store chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis.
